Exploring the north of Thailand is a proper adventure. This is a chance to see a part of the world that not many people get to see, and because of the nature of the landscape, we wanted to do it differently. The Tuk-Tuk is not everyone's first idea of how to travel through an area like this. Mostly you see Tuk-Tuks zooming about the big cities, but out in the rural parts of the country, they are still a pretty rare site. But this is such a tactile trip. It is not just about the sites (which are amazing) but about the deep, rich scent of the jungle, the warm air flowing through the open sides of the Tuk-Tuk and the ability to access tiny places that other tours just can't get to. 

Aside from the everyday highlight of driving your Tuk-Tuk (or being chauffeured depending on what you desire), there are so many incredible things to see on this trip. Exploring the summit and foothills of Thailand’s highest summit, Doi Inthanon, hiking little-known trails past towering waterfalls with a local guide who knows everything about every bit of flora and fauna in the region. Visiting temples, from roadside shrines to getting blessings from monks at grand, opulent otherworldly structures. 

Then there are the elephants. We get to spend half a day walking, feeding and bathing with these gentle giants, rescued from days of forestry work, or hauling tourists on their backs. Now they live in elephant luxury, shown nothing but love by the wardens and visitors to this beautiful park. Bathing an elephant is genuinely an experience like no other!

Your trip begins in Chiang Mai, the northern capital of Thailand. The tour guide will pick you up from the Chiang Mai Gate Hotel in the city at 10 am and transfer you out of town to get the tour started properly. After getting to know your Tuk-Tuk, you will head out to explore the area, staying in the beautiful little town of Mae Wang for a couple of nights. From here you will head up to Doi Inthanon where your rustic accommodation by this beautiful mountain allows you to easily explore this area on foot. From here you head to Mae Sariang, Mae Hong Song and finally finishing up in Pai before heading back down to Chiang Mai to finish off your thrilling northern tour.

Passport & visa requirements

• All visitors require a passport with a minimum validity of 3 months beyond your return travel date is required for all passengers (including children and infants)
• It is the visitor's responsibility to ensure they are holding the correct and current visa for the countries they are visiting
• If the visitor is a non-Australian passport holder, a valid re-entry visa may be required
• Important: Please start arranging your visa at least 6-8 weeks prior to departure to account for any delays due to consulate operating hours and processing times

Health & vaccination

• As border restrictions for countries begin to ease, being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 will maximise the number of locations you can visit. So whilst you are not legally required to be vaccinated, and it’s also not a requirement to travel with us, it will limit some of the countries that you can visit and may make it harder to travel for the next 12-18 months.
• We highly recommend our travellers to look at the current travel restrictions of their destination, speak with a medical professional at least 30 days before departure or get in touch with our team for travel advice.
• Health care such as a doctor’s surgery, dentist and optometrists may not always be accessible on this tour
• It is advised that you ensure you have adequate health insurance cover as part of your travel insurance

Fitness requirements

• Travellers should have a good level of physical fitness and mobility. They must be able to partake unaided in their chosen activities/package tours/cruise etc. as outlined in the itinerary
  
  

Dietary requirements

• Any dietary requirements must be received by DealsAway at least 30 days prior to your scheduled departure date. Failure to provide these details by this date may result in an inability to cater for your requirements
• In most cases DealsAway can cater for special dietary requirements but please note that on occasion, this may not be possible due to location, lack of availability of ingredients, and other extenuating circumstances. It is always advised to carry supplies with you
  
  

Transfers

• You will be transferred by Tuk-Tuk throughout the whole trip, although if you choose the self-guided option, you will be driving yourself.

This can happen with little notice so please be prepared for modifications to the route. The order and timing of included activities may also vary from time to time
  
  

Availability

• All DealsAway trips are available on a request-only basis and are subject to availability. Once booked you should receive a payment confirmation and receipt via email, followed by a booking confirmation normally within 72hrs of making a booking, sometimes this can take a little longer subject to supplier delay
